Austin, Texas: A question posed to me at a dinner party in a upscale restaurant several weeks ago by a lady friend of mine several weeks ago was “what birds are these”?. Then she proceeded to open her purse and presented to me a picture she had taken out of her breakfast room window one afternoon.

After reviewing the pictures I told her that they were Cedar Waxwings. She said she had never heard of them. I added that they are migrating through Texas through the Winter, as they live in the northern U.S. during the spring and summer. They fly in large groups up to 50-60 birds in numbers and will land on a tree with berries and strip the tree of berries very quickly and suddenly fly to the next tree. She exclaimed how beautiful they were and I concurred.
