Thd Male Cardinal

Thd Male Cardinal

The cardinal,  or the redbird as it is sometimes called,  is one of the mostly known bird in the eastern and southwestern part of the U.S.  However its territory is moving further westward and northerly.  The male cardinal’s face looks like he dipped his bill into an ink well as part of his face.  In the spring time he stakes out his territory and defends it from rival male cardinals.  He will find the highest perch and sing very clearly and loudly to discourage any other male cardinal in the neighborhood from trying to take his territory. Often one can see two males fighting over a female.

Their beak is short and stubby used to crack seeds and eat tomatoes or berries.  They usually have 4-5 eggs in their well made nest.  After 4-6 weeks the eggs hatch.  Then both parents are busy feeding them until they fledged and are out on their own.
